Innkeeper, Kris was raised by a gourmet cook and professional event planner, her mother, who often cooks at the B&B. Kris spent decades of her own in public relations and event planning, mostly in Washington, D.C. tending to politicians and high profile clientele. Even after a long work week, she worked or volunteered at various Blue Ridge Mountain B&B’s on nights and weekends, always wanting to run her own. “When pigs fly” she’d say, until a friend gave her a porcelain flying pig, and told her to “go for it.”
Kris decided to design the inn herself, and have it built from scratch. “I wanted the cozy feel and traditions of a B&B, but to provide the amenities modern travelers seek – like reliable hot water and electricity, no creaky floors, some sound proofing, oversized rooms and bathrooms,” she says. “What I really love are the trails and land we have. I always hated feeling stuffed after a big meal, then having to check out. I wanted a place for my guests to walk if they wished to. Finding 16 acres with walking trails just minutes from the budding tourism of Nelson County’s “Brew Ridge Trail” was perfect. Location, location, location!”
